By focusing on the wonder of nature, a person loses herself in the moment, reducing stress, finding peace, and becoming increasingly spiritual.

Society’s fast pace leaves many people feeling breathless. How can a person reduce stress and find peace?

Learning to live in the moment is the first step. Once a person learns to focus on each moment, he no longer needs to search for peace because he finds peace in everyday life. One way for a person to learn how to live in the moment involves spend time in nature.

Live in the Moment By Focusing on Nature’s Wilderness

Many spiritual people believe that spending time in nature brings human beings closer to religion by demonstrating the creation of God. A non-religious person can appreciate the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Being in nature, watching birds gather worms and flowers growing effortlessly, helps people appreciate each moment for what it is: precious. Every moment, many people live life. Every moment, trees grow taller and humans grow older. Every moment, one is part of creation.

When sitting in nature, take time to focus and observe the surrounding wilderness. Watch the ants crawl and the dragonflies soar. Notice the grass blowing in the breeze. Observe canoes floating by on a nearby lake and clouds drifting through the pale blue sky. Try to hear the dew drop from a flower petal in the early morning. See and hear and experience the magical items normally never noticed during everyday life, both the small and the grand.

Being aware with this kind of intense focus is called being mindful. Living this way awakens a person to the moment. People who love nature recognize that living in mindful awareness brings peace.

How Spending Time Outdoors Helps People Find Peace in Everyday Life

During a mindful moment spent amidst nature, when a person focuses so completely on the intricacies and the vastness of nature, it becomes possible to set the hectic world aside. Just for a moment, a mother stops worrying about how her child is doing in kindergarten for the first time. Just for a moment, a husband stops wondering about finances. Just for a moment, problems live somewhere else, outside of a person.

Focusing on nature overwhelms a person’s senses, making all else disappear one a moment at a time. Over time (passing moment by moment), peace envelops a person as he sits and focuses on nature.

If a person spends enough time living these moments in nature, outdoors and outside of everyday responsibilities, then those peaceful moments start to stay with her, helping her find peace amidst the craziness of daily life. She can take regular alone time outdoors, in the wilderness, to recharge, but she can also feel calmer and more at peace throughout everyday life, both alone and with others. This brings peace to all of a person’s actions, relationships, and life. A spiritual person might say that the love of nature infiltrates the rest of a person’s life.

Living in the moment can be learned in many ways. Focusing on nature is one way to help find peace.
