Pastor Akichukwe's Fatal Accident
Daniel Akichokwe, Pastor of Power Chapel Evangelical Church of Ontisha, Nigeria, was on his way to attend a Christian convention November 30, 2002, when his car was involved in an accident.
His wife Nnuke learned about the accident when one of their congregation burst into her home with the news. Together they made their way to the local hospital.
Pastor Akichukwe Certified Dead
At the hospital, the doctor informed Nnuke that her husband was probably going to die. Daniel Akichukwe was still just about alive and he insisted that Nnuke take him to their own doctor some distance away.
Against the hospital's advice, Nnuke moved her husband, but the journey was too much, On arrival at the hospital he was declared to be dead and Nnuke was given a death certificate. She was informed that her husband's body would be relocated to the mortuary.
The manager of the mortuary, Mr. Manu, registered the body and then started the embalming process. At first things went normally, but as he attempted to cut the body he received a shock and his arm was as if paralyzed and so the process was halted.
Pastor Akichukwe's Experience of Heaven and Hell
Pastor Daniel Akichukwe spoke on air about his experience, which was quite different from everybody else's. He found himself being lifted out of his body by a shining angel - complete with wings - into an amazing place that was full of color, light, love and music.
He saw the "many mansions" written about in the Bible, and "the saints" - shining beings without wings who were praising God in unison. Pastor Daniel wanted to go and join the saints, but the angel discouraged him.
Next they were standing in front of the gates of hell, which opened to reveal a place of torment and suffering. When those in hell saw the Pastor they shouted out for help, but there was nothing Pastor Daniel could do.
The Need to Forgive to Get Into Heaven
The angel turned to him and told the astounded Pastor that, were he to die, hell is where he would find himself. The Pastor was extremely upset and disturbed at this news. A Godly man he felt that he belonged with the saints, not with the sinners.
The angel explained that Pastor Daniel, on the day before his accident, had argued with his wife and had subsequently refused to forgive her. As a result of this unforgiveness, he wouldn't be able to enter heaven. He admitted his guilt and promised that he would behave differently in future.
Meanwhile, Strange Events Occur at the Mortuary...
In the meantime, there were strange things happening in the Mortuary. Mr Manu gave testimony on video that during the night he had heard music coming from the direction of the mortuary.
With some trepidation he went over to check what was happening and he noticed that the music was coming from the room where the Pastor's body had been lying for two days and that his face was shining.
The Resurrection of Pastor Akichukwe
The next day, Mr. Manu decided to recommend that the body be removed as soon as possible. Mrs. Akichukwe organized for a coffin to be purchased and went to collect the body. With her husband in his coffin, Mrs Akichukwe decided to take her husband's body to the Reinhard Bonkke Christian convention that was being held in the town and ask for prayer over his body.
Mr Manu was curious and asked to go along with them. He testified on air as to what happened next.
What Happened at Reinhard Bonkke's Christian Crusade
Although security tried to stop them entering, they were eventually taken into a back room and the Pastor's body - still stiff - was laid on the floor. The congregation gathered around to pray over him and after four hours his lifeless body started to quicken and then he was able to sit up. He was alive and completely healed.
He was amazed when he heard people speaking about his death. He felt like he had only been unconscious for 15 minutes and couldn't believe it when they told him he had been dead for 3 days.
What are the Messages of Pastor Akichukwe's Experiences
For believers, this story contains some powerful messages, as in all near death experiences. Knowing that life does not end when the physical body breaks down can give great strength and hope - unless one is - like the Pastor - living incorrectly. The importance of forgiveness was the biggest lesson for Pastor Daniel.
