Spiritual Growth

Obtaining Self-Healing for Your Spirit

© Lisa Hoskins

Spiritual growth is not just for enlightened masters and gurus. We each have our own spiritual journey to walk as we try to obtain what seems to be at times, elusive.

What is Spiritual Growth?

Many people say we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and not human beings having a spiritual experience. By definition, the meaning of spiritual is 'matters concerning the spirit' (taken from Wikipedia's definition of the word spiritual). If we are spiritual beings having a human experience, a logical way of breaking down spiritual growth might be to say that as we experience each lesson in our human life, we would grow on a spiritual level as well. If we are human beings having a spiritual experience, then each time we have a spiritual experience, would we grow on a human level? Perhaps we are both spiritual beings having a human experience and human beings having a spiritual experience. They seem to be interchangeable when you look at the big picture.

How Do We Obtain Spiritual Growth?

Each time you breathe in breathtaking colors of a sunset, smell the vast ocean's air, watch an eagle soar to heights we can only dream of, or just wake up in the morning- you are growing spiritually. "What?" you say? "How can this be? Just by waking up I am obtaining spiritual growth?!" The answer is yes. Since we are spiritual beings, our only purpose in life is to just be. To just be, we only need to wake up in the morning and do nothing else for the rest of the day! Alright, well that isn't so practical, but on a spiritual level it is. On a spiritual level, our spirits are constantly growing and changing, learning lessons as we breathe, eat, walk, and sleep.

To Each His Own

Each person's life path and journey is comprised of where they have been, what they have experienced, and what their internal belief system is. Each life experience, whether good or bad by your own definition, adds to your own spiritual growth. Each experience, even the most traumatic (and especially the most traumatic), changes who we are. When you help another person to heal, you are in essence, helping yourself to heal as well. As you teach ,you also become the student. As an individual, you will experience your own self-healing and spiritual growth patterns that will take you down life's learning path. The end destination isn't as important as the actual learning experience is.

You might question what your life's purpose is, and this in itself is interwoven into your spiritual growth as well. Your life purpose isn't your job, or how successful you may think you have become. Your life purpose is your bliss. It's what drives you to wake up each morning and face the world. It's what puts a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Listen to your inner-self for your own heart song and you will be well on the way to your own spiritual growth.
